The Bardstown Community Theatre started in 1982 as a workhouse for young actors by Marcia Hume. We incorporated and changed our name to BCT in 1984. The first years were very difficult because we had very little money with which to produce plays. Some of our first efforts were hardly works of art.

We persevered and gradually over the years we got better and more people started to attend our productions. We now have our own storage building, very well stocked with set, costumes, props and all the other things it takes to make a good play.

In 1987, Nelson County built a community center and they asked for our input on building a stage. We have produced most of our plays at that location since. Sometimes we perform plays at local restaurants and occasionally at school auditoriums. We even had a running contract to produce a murder mystery on the Ky. Railway Museum's saturday night excursion along the scenic historic roiling fork valley.

Our most consistent play has been our Mid-Winter Feaste, a madrigal play that we have performed yearly since 1988. We normally do this in the month of January when other social activities are slow. We have many people come from other states to see it. The play consists of a dinner during which our madrigal singers, jesters, magicians and the Duke and Duchess make the people feel like they are really taken back in time. Since we have been doing this so long, the costumes, singing and entertainment has gotten better and better each year. We think this is a must-see for anyone, any age.
